MATC's Digital Life Drawing course is believed to be the first of its kind in the nation. Students work on Wacom Cintaq monitors rather than traditional sketchbooks and the technology has resulted in rapid improvement throughout the semester. MATC Library Hosts Poetry Contest as part of National Library Week Festivities
To commemorate National Library Week, the MATC Library hosted a poetry contest open to all students. Marijo Giblin was the grand prize winner for her entry, "Meal for One." Marijo's poem was published in The Phoenix, MATC's student literary magazine, and she won a $50 MATC Bookstore gift certificate to be used for textbooks, a lunch ticket, a parking pass, an MATC Library flash drive and a journal. Milwaukee Area Technical College's Center for Engaged and Service Learning Foundation, Inc., received several accolades for a pilot project they coordinated during the summer of 2008 called the Environmental Survival Challenge (ESC). In the center of Madrid, Spain, residents and tourists feast on culinary creations by Whitefish Bay's Karen Bell. The 1998 MATC graduate in Culinary Arts opened the small restaurant called "Memento" in January 2006. When a close friend's brother committed suicide, Christine Brunner felt helpless. She desperately wanted to do something to help the family cope with its terrible loss. "Being there for them just wasn' enough for me," Brunner says. A couple of years later, she was flipping through employment ads and saw openings for funeral directors.
