Lamp of Knowledge Award - Fall and Spring Semesters
Documents: Document Coversheet Fact Sheet Faculty Nomination Form
Eligibility Requirements:
Have applied for graduation with honor graduate status and nomination by the faculty of your program. The deadline to apply for graduation is October 31 for fall graduation and March 31 for spring graduation. This is not a competitive program, but the nomination of a faculty member from the student's program is required.
Benefits:
Lamp of Knowledge award and appreciation gift, invitation to Honors Awards Ceremony for award recipients and their guests, and an opportunity to apply for the Outstanding Graduate Honor.
Notification Timetable:
Nominated students are notified following their award selection in November for the fall semester and in April for the spring semester.
Honor graduates are eligible for special recognition awards recognizing outstanding achievement in their academic program, presented by faculty of that program. The award most often presented for recognition is the Lamp of Knowledge Award. It is presented to student recipients at the Associate Degree and Technical Diploma Lamp of Knowledge Awards Banquet held in December for fall student recipients and May for spring student recipients.
Honor graduates who are interested in being considered for a special recognition award for their academic program are to observe the following procedures:
-
Honor graduates must be completing their program the semester they are being considered for special recognition.
-
One student per program/program code may be nominated.
Note: Participation in the selection process for the special recognition award is at the discretion of each academic program's faculty. Only faculty may complete the nomination form.
Note: If more than one honor graduate from an academic program is being considered for a special recognition award, the program's faculty will meet to determine their individual selection. Typically, only one student from each program's graduation class on each campus may be officially nominated to receive a special recognition award.
The fact that an academic program has honor graduates who are eligible for special recognition does not guarantee that an award presentation will be made. Each program's faculty must determine for themselves whether or not a special recognition award is merited, and if it is, which student from among those who are eligible will be selected.
Therefore, honor graduates who are interested in being considered for special recognition and who would like to know more about their instructors' intentions about the special recognition award process, should speak with them.
