The MATC Department of Public Safety will be undergoing a district-wide management and operations assessment August 5-8, 2007. This evaluation will be conducted through the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators' (IACLEA) Loaned Executive Management Assistance Program (LEMAP).

The LEMAP assessment team will consist of three specially trained and uniquely qualified campus Chiefs of Police from institutions similar to MATC. For more information about the LEMAP program and its objectives please visit the IACLEA website at http://www.iaclea.org/visitors/memberservices/lemap/index.cfm.

During this assessment the LEMAP team will be actively dialoging with various campus constituencies and external partners. To ensure that the process is fully inclusive the LEMAP team has scheduled a Community Forum for Tuesday, August 7, 2007 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Community Forum will be broadcast throughout the District with individual campuses having local access through the following meeting locations:
Milwaukee Campus - S120
North Campus - B217
South Campus - Lecture Hall A
West Campus - 361

Assessors will televise the forum from the Milwaukee Campuses' S-building, room 120.

All members of the MATC community are encouraged to attend this Community Forum to share their views and insights on the College's public safety programs and services. Community involvement in this assessment is critical to ensuring a balanced and representative perspective on public safety operations.

The LEMAP team looks forward to the community's participation in this very important process. Through this assessment the College hopes to build on its existing public safety efforts to ensure that its campuses remain safe and secure environments to learn, work, and socialize.

Safety Tips
The college's Public Safety Department has numerous safety and related tips and information for students, parents, employees and visitors. Stop by or call the Public Safety Office for more information.

Each MATC campus is very safe. The numbers of incidents at MATC?s four campuses are as low or lower than the reported incidents at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and nearby Marquette University.
Regardless of how safe any environment is, no place is immune from incident. When crime does happen at MATC and at most college campuses, it is often theft. Theft is often a crime of opportunity.

Always keep books, backpacks, purses, laptops, etc. secured. If you drive to an MATC campus, leave no valuables in view in your vehicle. Common-sense safety measures - no matter where you are - go a long way to keeping you and your possessions safe.

Emergency Telephones
Each campus has exterior emergency telephones (yellow) that directly connect to Public Safety. In addition, there are emergency telephones in selected campus hallways. For added convenience, emergency telephones are placed in most MATC classrooms and labs.

Public Safety Officers and the ERC
The Public Safety Department has a presence on all four MATC campuses. Public Safety officers, who go through extensive training, are at the campuses to answer questions, provide direction, and manage incidents and related concerns.
Through the Emergency Response Center, the Public Safety Department:

  • Dispatches Public Safety officers. (At the Mequon, Oak Creek and West Allis Campuses, officers can be dispatched through the Information area and Operations Department)
  • Report crime to local law enforcement
  • Monitor a closed-circuit television system
  • Monitor campus emergency telephones
  • Monitor fire and security alarms

Contact a Public Safety officer or the Public Safety Department to report an incident or crime: 414-297-6588.

TIPP Line
To anonymously report a campus crime or other concern, call 414-297-TIPP (8477). From an on campus telephone, call 78477. The Public Safety Department investigates all calls.

Walking and Escort Van Services
Public Safety officers will provide a walking escort to students, employees and visitors to their vehicle or another nearby destination upon request. An escort van is available at the Downtown Milwaukee Campus day and evening, Monday through Friday. The van will transport students and employees to their nearby vehicles, bus stop or parking lots near campus. The service is particularly popular during inclement weather.

To request an escort van pickup, call 414-297-6588.
