College of the Air

College of the Air courses are broadcast over public television station WMVT, Channel 36. These courses combine the viewing of video programs, readings from texts and study guides, laboratory sessions, and scheduled meetings with instructors so students will have minimal scheduled classroom sessions. Courses are offered in Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Business.

  • College of the Air courses are identified in the Master Class Schedule as "TV College" in the "Location" column.
  • Registered students receive a letter in the mail explaining how to access their syllabus, broadcast schedule, exam and conference schedule, and information booklets from Blackboard.
  • Textbooks and study guides may be purchased at any MATC Campus Bookstore.
  • Some courses are offered in both broadcast and individualized, self-paced formats for your convenience.

College of the Air Independent Study Options 

  • College of the Air Broadcast class lectures/demonstrations are presented via WMVT-TV Channel 36. On-campus time is limited to an orientation meeting, teacher conferences and exams. Faculty members are accessible by telephone, and tapes of the broadcast courses are available at all four campus libraries. You can find the broadcast courses in INFOnline by selecting "TV-College of the Air" in the "Online/College of the Air" field.  All broadcast courses end in "T" in the section number of the Course name (for example, ECON-195-450T ).
  • College by Cassette class lectures/demonstrations are on video tapes that can be checked out of any MATC Library. On-campus time is limited to exams that must be scheduled with the instructor . You proceed through the classes at your own pace, completing exams and other course requirements on a semester schedule that meets your educational needs. Faculty members are accessible by telephone, and the tapes are available at all four campus libraries. You can find the cassette courses in INFOnline by selecting "TV-College of the Air" in the "Online/College of the Air" field.  All cassette courses end in "C" in the section number of the Course name (for example, ECON-202-450C ).
  • Library-Only Viewing class lectures/demonstrations are on video tape. On-campus time is limited but the tapes must be viewed in one of the MATC Libraries. You proceed through the classes at your own pace, completing exams and other course requirements on a semester schedule that meets your educational needs. Faculty members are accessible by telephone, and the tapes are available at all four campus libraries.
