Carpentry is a two-semester technical diploma program that prepares you for employment in the construction of residential and commercial structures. Employers expect you to read blueprints, identify construction materials and use them properly, use power saws and other construction equipment, and assemble materials according to layout markings. The job outlook is bright for carpenters. Core skills include manual dexterity, the ability to work on ladders and scaffolds, and to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. High school drafting and construction courses are desirable.
