Biomedical Electronics Technology is an associate degree program that is designed to prepare you for a technical career with electronic equipment manufacturers. Products may include bedside monitor systems and EKG machines. There is an ever-increasing reliance on electronics to test and monitor patients in health care facilities, which has created a strong need for biomedical electronics technicians. Program graduates hired by hospitals and clinics typically are responsible for installing and maintaining the equipment. Manufacturers hire technicians to build and test biomedical electronic equipment. Employers expect you to be able to use basic test instruments, read wiring diagrams and schematic drawings, understand hospital operations, and know the applications of biomedical electronic equipment. Core skills include good manual dexterity, an interest in health care, and the ability to work closely with people.
