Educating Wisconsin
Some examples of what MATC does for the state of Wisconsin:
Office of Corporate Learning
MATC's Office of Corporate Learning (OCL) provides education, training and performance improvement solutions to business and industry. In the past three years, 9,000 individuals from more than 100 companies received training through the Office of Corporate Learning. The OCL can help an organization build its leadership capacity by developing key supervisors or managers, upgrading employee skills and performance, and enhancing the ability to serve customers through customer service training and computer skills training.
Adult High School
MATC's Adult High School is the place for adults who want to earn a high school diploma. Our comprehensive high school is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It offers a full range of academic and student support services at all four campuses, and you can take many courses in the evenings and online.
MATC's partnerships with many community angencies enable hundreds of adults to receive their GED's and high school diplomas.
Milwaukee Public Television
As a public service outreach venture for Milwaukee Area Technical College, WMVS/WMVT Channels 10 and 36 serve 2.1 million potential viewers with public and educational television programming. More than 116 hours of programming each day, 365 days a year, are delivered by the unique operation of three, co-located, full power broadcast services. Nearly 1.9 million viewers watch channels 10 and each week.
MATC Foundation
The Milwaukee Area Technical College Foundation, Inc. plays an increasingly important role in the development and success of MATC students and the community. About two-thirds of MATC students receive financial aid, scholarships and/or grants. Without this assistance, many MATC students would not be able to afford an MATC college education. In 2002-03, the Foundation awarded 200 scholarships to MATC students and secured nearly $300,000 in teaching and learning equipment -- technology for use in the college's classrooms and labs.
MATC security program trains students to battle viruses
Due to the increased use of Internet technology in virtually every industry, the need for information security experts is mounting. In response to this demand, Milwaukee Area Technical College launched an Information Security Specialist degree program in Fall 2002, which was the first of its kind in Wisconsin. http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/stories/2002/09/02/focus2.html?page=1
Indochinese Learning Center
Since 1981, the Indochinese Learning Center (ILC) has provided English as a Second Language instruction to over 3,500 Hmong, Lao, Cambodian and Vietnamese adult refugees. The Indochinese Learning Center is a program of Neighborhood House of Milwaukee, Inc. The ILC has been an outreach site of Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) since 1989. The program provides services that develop individuals' abilities and skills, thereby strengthening families and communities. A primary goal is to help students attain self-sufficiency and become productive members of the community.
