Petitioning Process Implemented for Select
Nursing and Allied Health Programs
Beginning July 1, 2008, MATC implemented a petitioning process to admit enrolled and eligible students into 10 Nursing and Allied Health programs. Acceptance into a program will allow a student to begin the core technical courses – theory, clinical, field placement – associated with certificates, diplomas and associate degrees. The petitioning process has been implemented to serve students more efficiently and help ensure their success. This process will expedite the admission of students who have completed the requirements and pre-requisites into their program of interest. The petitioning process creates a streamlined admission system that will allow a student to inform the college when they are ready to be considered for direct entry into their identified program.
The programs that will use petitioning are: • Anesthesia Technology • Cardiovascular Technology • Medical Interpreter Technician • Pharmacy Technician • Practical Nursing • Radiography • Registered Nursing • Renal Dialysis Technician • Respiratory Therapy • Surgical Technology
Each of these programs has established pre-requisites and requirements that must be met before a student can petition for admission into a program.
Petitioning is a formal process that consists of the following steps: 1. An MATC student identifies a program of his/her interest. 2. The student completes general studies requirements and all program pre-requisites identified for the program of interest. The requirements must be met before a student begins the petition process. 3. The student compiles documentation required for program of interest. 4. The student submits complete materials during petition window (September 15-30 for Spring Semester; March 1-15 for Fall Semester).
A Petition Specialist will be available to assist students with the process. Petition Instruction Sheets and Petition Forms for each program are available on the MATC website during the petition window.
The first petition window will occur September 15-30, 2008, for the Spring 2009 semester. All students seeking admission to one of the 10 programs listed above must petition for admission.
Detailed instructions on how to complete the petitioning process will be provided at a series of informational meetings. Career counseling information sessions are also scheduled if you have additional questions after attending one of the informational meetings.
