MATC to Offer Certificate in Healthcare Informatics

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (July 5, 2007) – Milwaukee Area Technical College this fall will offer a 12-credit, online, advanced technical certificate in electronic medical records maintenance. "Healthcare Informatics” teaches information-technology skills for the organization, analysis, application and management of computerized patient information. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development projects that job openings in this field will grow by 54.4% by 2012, with starting salaries ranging from $30,000 to $50,000.

This certificate is being offered in an accelerated format, starting Aug. 26. Each course lasts four to eight weeks. Training ends with a practicum. Candidates should have a diploma, an associate degree or a bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field, information management or related field. In lieu of those, equivalent work experience will be accepted.
